Paula has returned from a 6 month sabbatical and will be offering after school classes on Tuesdays, one on one private lessons on Sunday evenings and speaking/comedy workshops for kids and adults.
Kids have been through a lot in the past few years and so have parents. Anxiety, fear, isolation. Self expression and effective communication have never been more important! At Head Start Public Speaking for Kids, it is all about fun and encouragement while providing a safe space for your child to express themselves about what is important to them. Your child will be challenged to reach for their full potential but never be forced to speak. We’ve seen kids who couldn’t even look up from the floor for the first two months go on to MC final events and kids whose parents “made me come here” laugh and make friends in class and go on to learn how much potential they have.
Your child does not need any speaking experience. Head Start has worked with everyone from complete beginners to experienced speakers wanting to improve. Choose from after school classes, or 9 week workshops for school and organizations and one day Teacher workshops.
After School Classes for kids
Public Speaking Program Details
After school public speaking classes are on-line and EFFECTIVE! Classes have a maximum of 11 students and run for approximately 60 minutes. Classes run in two terms: from September – January, and January – June.
Each term is 18 weeks in length and includes a final presentation night that happens twice per year. Term 1 public presentation is in January and Term 2 final happens in June.

COMEDY & CONFIDENCE CAMP! Next camp November 2024 
July 10-14 in Gibsons, B.C. 9:00 am – 4:00 pm
Your kids will find the funny in their lives and the world in this on demand camp! By the end, students will have a 5 minute comedy set, a great story and the confidence to deliver it to an audience. Also free time for the beach together!
Improv games, comedy writing & performing, storytelling, self reflection and lots of fun! $250 per student
LIVE ON DEMAND
9 WEEK INTRO TO PUBLIC SPEAKING FOR KIDS
This popular workshop is the one that Head Start brings to schools. A basic introduction to public speaking and self confidence. 9 weeks long, this workshop is $3500 per classroom, with a 10% discount if you book more than one class PER DAY and a 15% discount if you book 3. 3 is the maximum per day.

Your Investment
In our after school classes your child will receive a copy of our book, “Speaking Tips For Awesomeness” -and will work out of the Handbook For Awesomeness manual in terms 1, 2, 3 & 4. The Advanced Handbook For Awesomeness manual is used in terms 5, 6, 7 & 8. All speeches are recorded via private youtube link and evaluated so you can watch their progress. There are two Public Presentations per year and your student is not obligated to complete the entire curriculum!

9 Week Public Speaking Workshops
Our most popular program, the 9 week public speaking workshops are provided in schools, for youth groups and home school groups and are a great introduction to public speaking which will boost your child’s confidence. Kids will learn how to introduce themselves, the importance of eye contact, body language and confidence. We will discuss sharing who they are and what’s important to them, talk about fear and how to overcome it and learn how to tell a good story.
Many teachers have remarked on how students feel that they know each other better after this program. Classmates learn things about each other that they never knew before and it engenders compassion for each other.
Starting this fall, Head Start will be offering our Recorded 9 Week Workshops to purchase for only $999 per class. This includes a copy of Speaking Tips for Awesomeness for every student!

Your Investment
In our 9 week public speaking workshop your child will create 3 presentations and choose their favorite from each of these to deliver in front of a live audience at the program’s completion. First and last presentations will be recorded so you can see their progress. Your child will receive the newly published “Speaking Tips For Awesomeness” book and will also learn to speak extemporaneously, expand vocabulary and learn how to listen more effectively.
If more than one workshop is booked for the same day, we offer a 10% discount.
